Mehmet ODABAŞI

He was born in Sivas in 1975. He graduated from Primary School and Imam Hatib High School (1993) in Sivas. While studying at high school, he took private lessons of Arabic language and Islamic studies. He was admitted to Marmara University Faculty of Theology in 1993 and completed his undergraduate studies in 1998. In 2005, he received master's degree in Islamic Law from Marmara University Institute of Social Sciences. He is currently working on his PhD thesis in the field of Islamic Law at the same university. Odabaşı, has extensive experience in Islamic Banking and Finance Transactions, Islamic Insurance and has served as member of Shariah Board in some institutions.

Finally, he took part, by translating half of the work "al-Ma‘âyîr al-Shar'iyya" published by AAOIFI (Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions), into Turkish under the title “Faizsiz Finans Standartları” (Interest-Free Finance Standards). The project was conducted by BDDK (Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency), TKBB (Participation Banks Association of Turkey), and Istanbul Zaim University. Mehmet Odabaşı, who also keeps providing trainings and seminars in the field of Islamic Finance and Insurance, is married with three children.

Assoc. Prof. Necmettin KIZILKAYA

Necmettin Kizilkaya is currently working as an Associate Professor of Islamic Law and Economics at the Faculty of Divinity, Istanbul University. He is director of the Center for Islamic Economics and Finance at Istanbul University. He earned his B.A in Islamic studies from Marmara University and M.A in Islamic Law from the same university. He received his PhD in Islamic Law from Selcuk University, Institute of Social Sciences in 2011. He has also been a visiting fellow at Princeton University, Columbia University, and Cambridge University. His research interests related to Islamic studies, especially Islamic law and economics. He focuses on the history of Islamic law, Islamic corporate law, modernity and Islamic law. He also works on Islamic economics, migration issues, halaal food and some other contemporary issues from the legal perspective. Kizilkaya has published several books. His research in the field of Islamic law and economics has appeared in many leading academic journals. He is a scientific advisor for numerous academic journals, and serves on the editorial boards of many academic journals and editor in chief of the Turkish Journal of Islamic Economics (TUJISE).

Assoc. Prof. Süleyman KAYA

Süleyman Kaya graduated from Kartal Anatolian Imam Hatib High School (1993) and Marmara University Faculty of Theology (1998). He received his master's (2000) and PhD (2007) degrees in Islamic Law from Marmara University, and the second master’s degree (2003) in Economic History from the same University. He is an Associate Professor of Islamic Law and Economics at the Faculty of Divinity, Istanbul University. Kaya speaks Arabic and German, and is married with three children.
